Encounter China’s Endemic birds and Wild Red Pandas in Sichuan (13 days)

Explore one of East Asia’s richest birding regions through our China birding tours in Sichuan’s Hengduan Mountains, part of one of the world’s 36 recognised biodiversity hotspots and home to an extraordinary diversity of endemic bird species. This 13-day expedition travels through national parks and protected areas, offering a focused wild birding adventure across remote mountain ecosystems.

Led by our WWF-registered environmental educator and guide, you will search for rare mammals such as the Red Panda and Sichuan Takin, both flagship species of the Giant Panda National Park. With exceptional luck, sightings of a wild Giant Panda are also possible. The journey highlights China’s iconic endemic birds, including the Chinese Monal and Sichuan Partridge, alongside some of the region’s most spectacular pheasants such as Temminck’s Tragopan, Blood Pheasant, and Lady Amherst’s Pheasant, observed in their natural mountain habitats during the peak breeding season.

In spring, the ancient Dove Tree blooms across the forest, adding a distinctive botanical highlight to this field-based wildlife experience.

We are a young couple from Italy. Our travel planner Nancy and Eastogo were fantastic, both in the pretrip explanations and in the assistance during the trip. Our guide, Renqing, was simply exceptional; it’s amazing how he manages to find animals in the mountains. It was exciting to see all the animals, even the snow leopard; we saw four. Our driver and co-guide, Atop, was also truly impeccable. Besides Renging’s skill at finding hidden animals, we were also amazed by his great humanity. During the trip, I was sick with a fever, but thanks to Renqing, I had all the necessary assistance, even at night, when I needed oxygen. The welcome from the Tibetan family was also wonderful. The living conditions during the days with the Tibetan family were more difficult due to the cold in the room and the bathroom outside the room, but this wasn’t a problem; we knew it and it was part of our wonderful experience. For some, it can be a problem, but we were prepared and everything went well; the trip makes up for these small difficulties. The rooms, however, were always clean and welcoming, despite the cold. We also loved the panda tour in Wolong-Cheng Du; the guide was excellent and the activities were really nice. I can only thank Nancy, Eastogo and all the guides who helped us love and discover Tibet and China. If we plan another vacation to China in the future, we’ll definitely do it with Eastogo.

It was well organized. The communication is fast and everything went so smooth. The guides are knowledgeable and we were booked in great accommodations. As with any wildlife encounters, everything is unpredictable. But the guides knew what they were doing. And in the end, we were able to see the Snow Leopard. We were incredibly lucky. It was not an easy trip because of the altitude but we were given all the information to help me prepare for it.

The experience was great from the start to the end. The organization was perfect! We had an itinerary before starting, but the agency was ready to change it if the weather condition were bad. Every night, we had information very detailed, for what we would visit the day after. During the they we had lot of time to explore the places and the driver was very helpful with everything. Most of all, flexibility was on point! And the landscapes were stunning!

We went to places only locals could find and stayed in lovely accomodation that suited well. Everything went very smoothly, and the itinerary was perfect! We were truly able to enjoy every single day. very special thank you to Carrick, our driver, who made our stay a truly unforgettable experience for our entire family. He was extremely professional and attentive; we thoroughly enjoyed spending time with him. We have been traveling across Oceania and Asia for nine months now; we’ve met many drivers along the way, but Carrick is by far the best! His car was also very comfortable! The organization was excellent from start to finish!
